General Information

We try to provide as much of the gear you will need as possible.  That being said, we still need you to bring the items from the Packing List.  Don’t bring your favorite anything because there is a chance it could be lost or damaged. Everything will get dirty.  This packing list is very utilitarian and designed to keep you well outfitted on all of our adventures no matter the weather.  Also, please label everything you bring with you so that we can always easily determine who something belongs to.  We are not responsible for lost, damaged, and/or stolen items.  Your clothing and other items should be quick-drying, lightweight, and easily packable. AVOID COTTON.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions about items on the packing list or what you should bring.  We will be traveling on the Oregon Coast so it is important to have comfortable shoes and be prepared for rain and sunshine.  Please let us know if you are having trouble finding good gear at a good price and we will do our best to help fulfill your needs.  Our partners will provide the specialized gear required for our adventure including wetsuits, booties, surfboards, paddleboards, kayaks, riding helmets, etc.   Your credit card on file will be used for any gear purchases necessary for your child.

Remember, being comfortable on the Oregon Coast during the summertime means dressing in layers and being prepared for rain or sunshine to alternate throughout the day.

Break in all of your shoes at home, don’t do it on your adventure!  Don’t wear shoes that cause blisters and don’t wear clothes that are comfortable.  Comfort and functionality are the most important qualities of your clothing and gear.   You also want to be active prior to coming on your adventure so that you can fully enjoy your experience.  We recommend getting your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes, 3-5 times per week.

What To Expect on Your Adventure

Welcome to your youth adventure travel experience!  Here are some details about what to expect on your adventure.  As always, please do not hesitate to email AJ if you have any questions and/or would like to chat about anything!

Daily Exercise & Yoga

Yoga is one of the best activities to improve and sustain overall well-being and happiness.  It will leave you feeling blissful, at-ease, present, and ready to take on the day!  Don’t worry, we will teach you everything you need to know.  It’s easy and all about doing what feels good for you.  It will increase your mindfulness and awareness while improving your strength, flexibility, posture, balance, cognitive function and mood.  We will teach you a Hatha-style yoga which is non-religious and focuses on uniting your breath with movement.  It feels fabulous and really puts you in touch with your body and self.  As with everything on your adventure, our yoga practice will be done in a non-comparative, kind, and patient spirit and environment.  Our daily yoga sessions are designed to foster a better understanding and appreciation of yourself and others.  It will also make you feel really, really wonderful!

Keeping Clean

You’ll be getting salty and probably a little dirty, but don’t worry. You’ll be able to stay clean. We want you feeling comfortable and at-ease, so you’ll be using regular bathrooms and real showers every day.  The main difference is you will be using communal campground facilities instead of having a private bathroom.  Don’t worry, you’ll still have all of the privacy and comfort that you need.  We are also going to teach you everything you need to know to use “communal facilities” so you’ll be ready to face any bathroom in the world! We are dedicated to keeping clean and fully enjoying the benefits of good personal hygiene routines.

Laundry

You should bring enough clothing to get you through the entire adventure. We plan on doing laundry at the laundromat before you go home because we want you to go home with clean clothes and know how to take care of your own laundry.  You will have your own separate laundry bag, but this is also a good time to remind you to label all of your items because you are responsible for keeping track of your belongings.  Don’t bring anything you can’t live without, leave it at home.

Bathrooms

You will always be able to go to the bathroom in privacy.  Everything you need to use the bathroom will either be provided or is included on your packing list.  Your bathroom set-up will be the same every morning and every night, and we’ll use public restrooms on our outings.  Our campsites have flushing toilets, showers, and we’ll be providing plenty of clean drinking water.

Transportation

We will be traveling in a passenger van or suburban-style vehicle that is with at all times during the adventure.  We always have access to our own transportation.

Weather

The weather on the Oregon Coast can be sunny and beautiful one minute and rainy and stormy the next, and everything in between.  As you can see from your packing list, you will be outfitted for any occasion, and we will teach you how to dress in layers and stay comfortable and dry.

Tents

All adventurers sleep together in a large lodge-style ten on a single campsite.  If it’s really beautiful out and the tides are right, then we may also sleep under the stars on the beach.  Our guides and hosts are on-site and with our adventurers at all times, 24/7.  Our campsite is close to bathrooms with flushing toilets, showers, and plenty of drinking water.

Cell Phones

We will be in cell service 75% of the time.  All hosts and guides will have their personal cell phones, and all adventurers will have access to their cell phones every day.  Cell phone use will be limited to an as-needed basis and to calling parents/guardians only.

Leave No Trace Practices

We will be teaching and practicing the Leave No Trace practicess on our adventure.  These seven practices are:

Plan Ahead and Prepare

Travel and Camp on Durable Surfaces

Dispose of Waste Properly

Leave What You Find

Minimize Campfire Impacts

Respect Wildlife

Be Considerate of Other Visitors.

Adventure Life & Meals

You will learn how to participate and assist with many different tasks on our adventure.  Everything is designed to teach you how to be self-reliant and successfully work with others.  We will all work together as “many hands make light work”.  Cooperation and supporting each other makes for a fun, relaxed environment where we all feel safe, confident, and at-ease.

We will all work together to make all of our meals and we will share them all together.  We will eat three meals per day with snacks available at all times. You will learn how to plan, prepare, and cook truly delicious, nutritious, plant-based meals that you will be able to enjoy no matter where you are.  All meals are well-balanced and include a variety of grains, fruits, vegetables, and plant-based proteins.  We believe that knowing how to incorporate plant-based eating into one’s overall diet promotes a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Some of the dishes you will enjoy include French Toast with whipped cream and fresh berries, spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread, grilled cheese, pasta salad, potato salad, beans and rice, quesadillas, burgers with fries, pancakes, breakfast burritos, smores, sloppy joes, breakfast scramble, and more of your favorites!  We encourage all adventurers to truly appreciate and be grateful for every meal they eat, including those that aren’t their “favorite”, and to always be willing to try new things with an open-mind and positive attitude!  Rest assured, there will be lots of supper yummy food, plenty for seconds, and mealtime will be one of the best times of the day!

New Friends

There are only 7-10 adventurers traveling together at a time, so we will all become a tightly bonded group on our adventure.  We are going to get to know each other very well, and will be working together a lot.  All who adventure together are friends.  Some will be closer than others, but we will all learn how to appreciate and be grateful for each other.  We will feel like a team, like a family.

Solo Time

We are going to be together at all times, however, some of that time will be spent reading, journaling, and self-reflecting on your own.  We understand the importance of having time on your “charging pad” each day so that you can feel your best.

Music

There is going to be lots of time for us to listen to music, so please bring a playlist of songs you like and want to share!
